Welcome To Yellowstone Ballet Company!
Incorporated in 1990, Yellowstone Ballet Company is one of the first Montana ballet companies.  YBC has produced full-length performances of Cinderella,  Giselle, La Fille Mal Gardee, and Swan Lake along with  annual productions of The Nutcracker.

Yellowstone Ballet Company is supported by donations, grants, ticket sales and volunteerism. Through partial funding from the Montana Cultural Trust we have produced original ballets: Hiawatha, Hansel & Gretel ~ with a Twist, Romeo & Juliet of the Rockies, Elves & the Shoemaker, The Little Mermaid and Pinocchio. Principal dancers and soloists from the Bolshoi Ballet, Kirov Ballet, Boston Ballet, Colorado Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet,  and Paris Opera Ballet have highlighted our productions in principal roles.

Productions are open to dancers from all area dance schools through an audition process. Dancers can train at their individual studios and still be in company productions with rehearsals generally limited to Saturdays.

YBC Artistic Director, Kathleen Rakela, danced with the Sacramento Theatre Ballet and trained at the Royal Academy of Dancing, England and the Joffrey Ballet School. She has a teaching credential (AIST) with the the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, London, England in the Cecchetti Method of Ballet and is an ABT® Certified  Teacher, successfully completing the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Primary through Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum.

Rakela is the recipient of a Montana Dance Arts Association Fellowship and a Montana Arts Council Fellowship for the Performing Arts. Her choreography has been recognized internationally with excerpts from her original ballet Romeo & Juliet of the Rockies chosen for presentation at festivals in Amsterdam and Germany.
